Why I’m Starting Acton Academy Miami Beach

“I wanted a school where my son could be free to be curious, courageous, and completely himself. When I couldn’t find one—I decided to build it.”

Everything changed when I started visiting microschools. What I saw opened my eyes to an entirely different way of thinking about education. These small, learner-driven communities were filled with children who were joyful, confident, and deeply engaged in their learning. Many of them were not only thriving emotionally—but academically outperforming their peers in traditional schools.

When I began searching for schools in Miami Beach, I kept running into the same walls: long commutes, sky-high tuition, and systems that still rely on outdated methods of teaching. I knew what I didn’t want—standardized testing, one-size-fits-all curriculum, and kids sitting quietly in rows memorizing facts. But more importantly, I knew what I did want: a place where children could lead their own learning, develop a deep sense of purpose, and grow into independent thinkers and doers.

That’s what led me to Acton Academy.

Acton is unlike any school I had ever encountered. There’s no traditional homework, no grades, no lecturing. Instead, learners work at their own pace, set meaningful goals, and solve real-world problems—all in a close-knit community that values curiosity, character, and challenge.

As a mom and an advocate for school choice, I knew our community needed something like this. A school that doesn’t just prepare kids for college—but prepares them for life.

So I’m building it. Right here in Miami Beach.

This blog will be a window into that journey. I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes updates, stories from the studio, reflections on education, and resources for families who are also searching for something more.

Thank you for following along—and for believing that children are far more capable than we’ve been led to believe.
